Teaching Our Children

A great challenge: Striving for academic excellence is one of the greatest challenges facing many students today. Several factors may be responsible for this. Perhaps, the most paralyzing factor is negative peer pressure. For example, many students try to study and strive for success but are stifled in their efforts by students who are on their way to the big city of Nowhere. Those students who want to excel are ostracized and constantly reminded: "You are trying to act smart!" I have never been able to understand the logic couched in their implication that Human-Beings are supposed to be ignorant. (just cause you are another race, color, big, small, tall, short, popular, loner or just different) Admittedly, everyone wants to be accepted, loved and respected. But when human wants are compromised at the expense of "a get-by education." the result is limited potential development. This, from an economic perspective, translates into unemployment or limited income -- a major step toward poverty. Parents should expose their children to positive role models. By role models, I do not mean entertainers or athletes. (not saying they are bad) I mean parents, extended and augmented families, church leaders, and community members who have the opportunity to mold lives and change attitudes on a daily basis. These are people who can participate in lifelong learning activities, demand high expectations from students, enhance self-esteem, and volunteer in schools as well as visit schools to model the importance of education. These are people who can exemplify and instill moral and spiritual values. These are people who can promote faith development and pride, by sharing their faith and ancestral stories. These are people who can demonstrate the importance of setting goals and reaching them. Certainly, these are people who can lend credence to the
"It takes a village" concept. These are the role models that our young people need to see in action. Finally, the very survival of our race compels us as parents and "village communities" to accept the challenge to help our youth understand that many of us in the past suffered, bled, and died in order for us to enter the door to opportunity today via education. Because of this, they do not have the right to nullify sacrifices made on our behalf by previous generations of people. Moreover, we must fulfill the mandates reflected in Deuteronomy 6:5-6 and Psalm 78:1-4. These mandates, coupled with our empowerment efforts, will not only sustain our heritage, but they will also be one of the greatest legacies that we can bequeath. Throughout the Scriptures, the family is the basic source for the moral and practical teaching of children (Deut. 6:6-7). Women are a vital link in teaching their own children and mentoring younger women (2 Tim. 1:5). Parents are admonished to teach their children with love and responsibility (Eph. 6:4-7), and children are to learn with an attitude of respect (Ex. 20:12; Lev. 19:3). In complete darkness, we are all the same, It is only our knowledge and wisdom that separate us. Don't let your eyes deceive you! - H. Harris (KJV).
Read Deuteronomy 6:5-7; see also Matthew 18:3.

My Wish List

Some things are easier to get and other things harder. Patience is the key :)
I do wish for more things, but that's for another list. These are on my top at the moment.

Book Reading - Through My Eyes

Through My Eyes – Tim Tebow
Over the past five years Tim Tebow has established himself as one of the greatest quarterbacks in college football history and a top prospect in the NFL. In Through My Eyes he shares his inspiring story. From the circumstances of his birth to Christian missionaries in the Philippines to his homeschool roots and record-setting career with the Florida Gators, Tebow tells how his Christian faith, family values, and determination to succeed propelled him to achieve his dreams.

Through My Eyes is a winner because Tim Tebow is a winner. The most exciting part is that this is only the beginning a new journey. Tebow can take his platform and witness to a whole new stage in the NFL. With men like Tony Dungy and Chuck Norris endorsing Tebow and what he stands for, how can you not pick up this book? Don’t be left out. This is one you want to read.

Also visit the "Take A Knee With Tebow" website: and order a cool wrist band. GREAT! service from BJ.

Green Day

As the 42nd Anniversary of Earth Day approaches, people are becoming frustrated with the failure of governments to take any steps towards protecting and preserving the environment. The Earth Day 2012 campaign is designed to provide people with the opportunity to unite their voices in a call for a sustainable future and direct them towards quantifiable outcomes.
For Earth Day 2012 we are mobilizing the planet simply to say one thing: the Earth won't wait. It seems that environmental issues have been put on the back burner as we are in the midst of a global recession. It is time for us to Mobilize the Earth™ and speak with one voice, one message. A Billion Acts of Green is already the world's largest environmental service campaign. With over 800 million environmental actions registered on the Earth Day Network website the global support behind the movement has been tremendous. But the work is not finished yet. Earth Day Network and TckTckTck are proud to announce a joint collaboration to mobilize communities worldwide to advocate for a sustainable future through the Renewable Energy for All campaign. The campaign will promote renewable energy initiatives and build support for comprehensive action at the United Nations Conference on Sustainable Development.

A Better Place

God of power and mercy, you have made death itself the gateway to eternal life. Look with love on our dying brother/sister, and make him/her one with Your Son in His suffering and death, that, sealed with the blood of Christ, he/she may come before you free from sin. Amen.

My condolences goes out to our fam/friends in San Pedro CA. And to all the ones that have left this world rest in heavenly peace.
