Lavender Love

Today, lavender is the most used essential oil in the world. Ancient texts tell us that lavender essential oil has been used for medicinal and religious purposes for over 2,500 years.
The Egyptians used it for mummification and as a perfume. The Romans used it for bathing, cooking and for scenting the air.
And, quite possibly the most famous usage of all,Mary used it to anoint Jesus with her hair and and some believe spikenard was made from lavender essential oil.
“Mary then took a pound of very costly perfume of pure nard, and anointed the feet of Jesus and wiped His feet with her hair; and the house was filled with the fragrance of the perfume.” ~ John 12:3
Many researchers claim that 2,000 year ago lavender was referred to as spikenard or simply nard from the Greek name for lavender, naardus, after the Syrian city Naarda. This really puts the power of lavender into perspective doesn’t it?
Lavender oil benefits your body in the following ways:
  • Reduces anxiety and emotional stress
  • Heals burns and wounds
  • Improves sleep
  • Restores skin complexion and reduces acne
  • Slows aging with powerful antioxidants
  • Improves eczema and psoriasis
  • Alleviates headaches
Medicinal Benefits Of LAVENDER Oil

lavender is one of the most popular essential oils in the world. And is beneficial in many other ways.
How potent is this ancient plant? Here are some health benefits of lavender oil and the reasons you should consider using it.
Researched Lavender Oil Benefits

Antioxidant Protection

Arguably the most dangerous and most common risk factor for every disease that affects most of us, free radicals (toxins, chemicals, pollutants, etc.) are responsible for shutting down your immune system and can cause unbelievable damage to your body.
So, what’s the solution?
Antioxidants!
The body’s natural response is to create antioxidant enzymes – especially glutathione, catalase, and superoxide dismutase (SOD) – which prevent these free radicals from doing their damage.
Unfortunately, your body can actually become deficient in antioxidants if the free radical burden is great enough. Sadly, this has become relatively common in many places all over the world. Because of poor diet and high exposure to toxins.
Thankfully, natural options abound, such as lavender essential oil, which has been proven to be nature’s antioxidant super hero.
It is discovered that lavender essential oil helps your body produce three of your bodies most powerful antioxidants, glutathione, catalase, and SOD within 22 hours of using lavender essential oil!
Also, similar results been seen after just seven days of inhaling lavender essential oil vapor for 60 minutes a day.  They found that diffusing lavender oil protected cells from damage that can lead to cancer.
*Use a diffuser with your top essential oils for health benefits.

Diabetes Treatment

Research to test the effects of lavender essential oil on blood sugar to see if it can help diabetes.

During the 15-day study, the results observed by researchers were absolutely amazing. In a nutshell, lavender essential oil treatment protected the body from the following symptoms of diabetes:
  • Increase in blood glucose (the hallmark of diabetes)
  • Metabolic disorders (especially fat metabolism)
  • Weight gain (ever wonder why as diabetes continues to rise, so do our waistbands!)
  • Liver and kidney antioxidant depletion (one of the reasons diabetes is lethal)
  • Liver and kidney dysfunction (ditto)
  • Liver and kidney lipoperoxidation (when free radicals “steal” necessary fat molecules from cell membranes)
Surprisingly, the radical-scavenging antioxidant activity of lavender was actually more robust than ascorbic acid (Vitamin C)!
Does this tell us that lavender essential oil should be used as a treatment option for diabetics? Maybe.
Look forward to more research on this topic - as natural approaches to diabetics.
*You can apply lavender essential oil topically on your neck and chest, diffuse it in the air, or supplement with it for the health benefits.

Improves Mood And Supports Brain

Lavender was put on the pedestal for its unique ability to protect against neurological damage.
Traditionally, lavender has been used to treat neurological issues like headachesstress, anxiety, and depression so it’s exciting to see that the research is finally catching up to history.
The study found that supplementing with 80 mg capsules of lavender essential oil alleviates anxiety, sleep disturbance and depression.
Additionally, in the study there were no adverse side effects from using lavender oil to treat anxiety, insomnia and depression. Whereas we know pharmaceutical drugs like have dangerous side effects.
And according to research, lavender essential oil benefits don’t stop there, it has also been shown to reduce symptoms and development of Alzheimer’s disease!
Inhaling lavender essential oil vapor for 60 minutes a day was shown to prevent brain oxidative stress in rats with dementia.
Another study took 28 high-risk postpartum women and found that by diffusing lavender in their home they had a significant reduction of postnatal depression and reduced anxiety disorder after a four-week treatment plan of lavender aromatherapy.
Also shockingly studies proved that lavender is a viable treatment option for stroke. Yes stroke!
Another study proving that lavender aromatherapy improves mood was done on people suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).
The results revealed that just 80 mg of lavender oil per day helped decreased depression by 32.7% and dramatically decreased sleep disturbancesmoodiness, and overall health status in 47 people suffering from PTSD.
*To relieve stress and improve sleep, put a diffuser by your bed and diffuse oils while you sleep at night or in the family room while you’re reading or winding down in the evening.  Also, can be rubbed topically behind your ears for the same benefits.

Lavender Heals Burns and Cuts

Widely known for its antimicrobial properties, lavender has a rich history of being used to prevent various infections and combat bacterial/fungal disorders. In fact, almost 100 studies have been conducted establishing this truth over and over again.
Also, we have found that lavender oil speeds the healing of burns, cuts, scrapes and wounds and a big part of this is because of it’s anti-microbial properties.
For example, in a study evaluating how lavender’s antimicrobial ability is enhanced when blended with other essential oils like clove, cinnamon and tea tree oil. Specifically, a 1:1 ratio of these oils was found to be the most effective in fighting against Candida albicansand Staph aureus, which are both common causes for many fungal and bacterial infections that lead to respiratory pneumonia and skin funguses.
*For burns or eczema, mix lavender oil with coconut oil in 1:5 ratio for rapid healing.

Lavender Oil Benefits Skin

Most likely due to its antimicrobial and antioxidant characteristics, lavender essential mixed with aloe or coconut oil has profound benefits on your skin.
Just 10 drops per 1 ounce of aloe vera or oil will sooth the worst sunburn and bring rapid healing to dry skin, minor cuts and scraps.
Research has even proven its ability to speed recovery from canker sores and can prevent allergic reactions!
Want to reduce age spots?  Try mixing lavender oil with frankincense essential oil and put it on your skin first thing in the morning, right after you shower and right before bed.  Success stories of these two oils improving age and sunspots are numerous.
Do you want to smell good without using toxic perfumes?  Lavender oil is a great scent for women and for men, you may consider using cedar wood essential oil or frankincense essential oil.
As you can see, lavender essential oil benefits are incredible and it has many medicinal and therapeutic uses.

When buying lavender essential oil make sure you are buying from a high quality brand that is therapeutic grade and that is organic, so it hasn’t been sprayed with chemicals.

Hic-c-ups!

Hiccups are a funny one. We know what they are, we know what they do to our bodies, and for the most part, we know how to get rid of them. But we can't say for sure where they came from, or what they actually do in the body.

What is a hiccup, anyway?

A hiccup is a kind of forced intake of breath, caused by muscle spasms in your chest and throat. There are over 100 causes for hiccups, but the most common is irritation of the stomach or the oesophagus - the food tube that leads to it. The "hic" noise comes when the breath is cut off by the snapping shut of your glottis - which is like a fleshy lid or trapdoor that separates the food and air tubes in your throat.

The most common causes of short-term hiccups include:
  • overeating
  • eating spicy food
  • consuming alcohol
  • drinking carbonated beverages, such as sodas
  • consuming very hot or very cold foods
  • a sudden change in air temperature
  • excitement or emotional stress
  • aerophagia (swallowing too much air)
These are the top (stop) five:
  • Have a tablespoon of sugar.
  • Hold your breath.
  • Drink one cup of water.
  • Forget the memory of having hiccups.
  • Get someone to scare you out of nowhere. ( it won't work if you know that they are going to scare you)

D Rose?

The Chicago Bulls have been plenty patient with superstar Derrick Rose over the last two seasons as he tried to work his way back from various injuries. Rose missed the Bulls’ last four games with ankle injuries, but returned last night against the Utah Jazz in Salt Lake City and had 18 points in a 97-95 win.

The question is... will Derrick Rose ever be back back?

Hair Tips & Treatments

TIPS:

Cleanliness is important
The most important reason for hair fall is dandruff and itchy scalp. Therefore, maintain good cleanliness for beautiful and healthy hair.

Avoid hot water
Skip hot water showers, because hot water will make your hair dry and brittle as it strips protective oils from your hair. Preferably a temperature which is just a bit warmer than your body temperature.

Don't wash your hair frequently
Wash your hair every 2-3 days, for proper regulation of natural hair oils. Washing your hair less often will also help regain your hair's natural body and luster.

Tight is NO-NO
To prevent breakage due to brittle hair avoid using bands and do not tie your hair too tightly.

The proper brushing technique
Avoid using a comb with plastic bristles to prevent hair breakage from static electricity. The best way to brush your hair is by first brushing the ends to remove tangles and then take the long stokes from the roots of the hair to the ends. This technique will help proper spreading of natural hair oil and thus prevent breakage.

Trim your hair regularly
Get your hair trimmed at least every six weeks to eliminate dry, split ends.

Do not brush wet hair
Wet hair is three times weaker and thus more likely to break - says Dr. Suttar. He recommends, towel dry your hair first and then gently detangle your hair using a wide tooth comb.

Let your hair air-dry
Allow your hair to dry by itself instead of using a blow-dryer or hot rollers. Using this artificial mode of drying technique will make your hair more brittle and dry. If you have no time to let your hair air dry, then use blow-dryer sparingly and make sure you use a warm setting instead of a hot setting.

Good diet
Drink lots of water and eat a healthy diet of raw fruits and vegetables. The most effective home treatment for hair care is a healthy diet. You are what you eat, and what you put into your body will be reflected on the outside.

TREATMENTS:

Moisturize your hair
Pour a little beer in your wet hair. Distribute evenly and massage your scalp with your fingers for 20 minutes. Then rinse it thoroughly to get rid of the beer smell. Do this procedure once a week for salon smooth hair.

Treat sun damaged hair
Make a mixture of ½ cup honey, 1-2 tbsp olive oil and 1-2 tbsp of egg yolk. Apply this mixture on your hair for 20 minutes and then rinse with warm water. This treatment will help to replenish keratin protein bonds.

Bottle gourd treatment
Extract some bottle gourd juice and apply it into your hair. Keep this solution for half an hour and wash it off thoroughly.

Egg treatment
Use the entire egg to condition your hair. If you have dry or brittle hair, use egg whites to moisturize your hair. Use ½ cup of any egg mixture (egg white, entire egg) and apply to clean, damp hair. Leave it for 20 minutes and rinse with cool water.

For that shiny soft hair
Prepare a mixture of 1 cup of your daily conditioner and 2-3 tablespoons of honey. Apply this mixture evenly on your wet hair. Leave it for 30 minutes and wash it off thoroughly. This mixture will close down your hair's cuticle and give your hair that amazing shine.

Baking soda therapy
Make a mixture of 3 tbsp. of baking soda and some water. Rinse your hair with this solution after shampooing. Let it set in for at least 5 minutes before the final rinse. This therapy will help to remove the excess shampoo and styling product from your hair.

For bouncy hair
Apply a one to one mixture of warm water and apple cider vinegar to your hair. Rinse it thoroughly after 5 minutes to get rid of the apple cider smell.

Make your conditioner
For a protein packed conditioner, mix eggs and yogurt and rub it into your scalp. Leave on for five or 10 minutes, and then wash it off completely.

Say bye-bye to dull hair with lemon juice
After the final rinse, apply 1 tbsp lemon juice to your hair. Simply towel dry your hair and style as normal to get rid of dry hair.

Use protection before you jump into the pool
Pools can do great damage to your hair as it contains harsh chemicals - prevent your hair from the pool damage by simply applying a little conditioner to your hair before you swim. This will protect your hair before it comes in contact with the pool water.

For strong hair
Use almond oil to treat dry and damaged hair. It is a very simple procedure, pour some almond oil in a bowl and heat it for 40 seconds. Then evenly distribute on your hair. Leave it for 30 minutes and then rinse normally with shampoo and conditioner using cold water.

Purposeful Giving

The inequity of wealth distribution in the world is often reflected within our faith communities. The recent phenomenon that some have labeled a "prosperity ministry" suggests that if one is not wealthy (with wealth defined as the acquisition of material goods), then one's faith requires strengthening. While Scriptures do state that God will bless the godly in all sorts of ways, we discover that emphasis is often placed on areas that lead to relationship building and compassion for one another, rather than self serving goals and idolatry. God, through the prophet Amos, issues a strong warning to those who oppress the poor (Amos 4:1-3). When we focus on personal prosperity as a sign of God's providence, we forget that Jesus requires us to care for those who are incapable of caring for themselves (Luke 14:13). Fulfilling the requirement is often difficult but not impossible. Honoring the commitment sometimes requires that we rethink our understanding and application of tithing and stewardship, which might direct us away from "blind" giving. If the Holy Spirit is working in a persons life, His presence will be evident by the persons heart. When a person realizes that they have been blessed with God's grace and mercy, He/She will give His/Her time, energies and financial resources. Ultimately, we are accountable for contributing to kingdom building. Do our contributions make a difference in the communities in which we worship? Are we involved with ministries that meet the needs of the community that they serve? It's time to rethink our giving in order to make a difference in someone else's life. How blessed we are when we realize that everything we have belongs to God and has been loaned to us to share with others. When we arrive at this point, we are able to discern and to apply the liberating principle: be in bondage to no one - individually and collectively. For Christ has set us free. Let us therefore handle "our possessions" in our private and corporate lives in a manner that reflects the liberty that is found in our relationship with Jesus Christ. Giving to others without a judging attitude will bring us abundant joy!
Read Amos 4:1-3, Luke 14:13; 18:12.

Toffee Biscuits (Kola-Kakor)

Crispy Chewy Caramel biscuits
with a taste of toffee and vanilla
    Ingredients:
  • 200 g softened butter/margarine at room temperature
  • 1.75 dl (about 160 g) sugar (granulated or brown)
  • 1.5 tsp vanilla sugar (or about 1 tsp vanilla extract)
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 2 tablespoons golden syrup
  • dl (310 g) plain flour
Preheat oven to 175°C (degrees Celsius) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Mix together butter and sugar until soft and white and well combined then mix in the vanilla sugar, baking powder and syrup.
Add the flour and work into a dough. Knead it until it is smooth and lump-free.
Divide into about four equal pieces. Roll each one into a long rope about 40cm long/1.5 cm thick and place the lengths on a greased oven tray. Flatten lightly with the back of a fork. (Make sure they are spaced out as the dough will spread.)
Bake in the middle of the oven for 10-12/18-20 minutes (depending on the oven) at 175 degrees until golden.
Take them out and and allow to cool on the baking sheet for about one or two minutes then cut into squinty slices sideways into diamond shaped biscuits) Place on a wire rack and allow them to cool completely under a clean kitchen towel.
Store in plastic bags or airtight tubs. (Makes about 50 biscuits which can be frozen for up to 3 months.)
